I Just Wanna Dance!
Strokin' with Clarence Carter
This post is a tribute to Clarence Carter who died this past week. You might recall some other CC songs like “Slip Away.”
Austin Kleon writes in his Substack this week about CC and Strokin’ quoting legendary director, William Friedkin: “Strokin’ is one of the great American songs. To me he was the Mozart of Southern music. You can almost never hear “Strokin’” on the radio, not in this politically correct world.”
Well, the truth is we dance to “Strokin’” in my line dancing class. It’s fun to shake up the oldsters!
Temporarily I’m a Wall Flower with Knee Replacement
How much hope goes into knee replacement surgery at 81? How about “Pie in the Sky” dreaming. Well I can’t show you this dance in a video yet but Dave Serfling on YouTube will take you through the steps. I’m hoping to take over in a few months.
My surgery was a newer technique called “Quad Sparing,” where they don’t cut the quad muscles so rehab is shorter and not as painful as the traditional “zipper” surgery. My surgeon also used the Stryker Robot which works in tandem with an imaging scan so the incision is more precise.
Does Clarence make you wanna dance? The tutorial is at the bottom of this post. It’s a 24 Count, 4 Wall line dance. That means the dance is three 8 counts or just three steps. First is the shimmy (you can move your shoulders & hips, right?) the second step is rocking horse, and last is three pivots ending with a stomp. That’s it!
Here’s Dave Serfling on YouTube with “Strokin Line Dance:”
You are so welcome. Let me know in the COMMENTs if this post got you up outta your chair. There’s nothing better for your brain than dancing especially line dancing where you’re trying to remember that next step. And it’s better than crosswords and mah jongg because you’re moving at the same time you’re using your brain.
Thanks for your support and encouragement of Get Gutsy.
Remember, there’s no expiration on dreams,
Trish
