CHANGING THE ODDS
When my father was 29, he was a codebreaker for the U.S. Navy during WWII.
At the age of 69, they locked him in his room at night for his own safety.
A few years later dementia took his life.
Concerned I might have the gene for Alzheimer’s, I spit in a cup and had my DNA assayed. Turns out I didn’t have the culprit, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t get the same disease that killed my father.
FIXING THE 36 HOLES IN THE ROOF
A career nutritionist, I followed all the research on dementia and Alzheimer’s. When Dale Bredesen, MD, published his book, The End of Alzheimer’s, I began to follow his Recode Protocol which he described as “fixing the 36 holes in the roof.”
Some of the ‘holes’ were easier to fix than others and some I had already filled with lifestyle changes. The easier leaks to fix included supplements. The hardest were the lifestyle changes such as giving up sugar and sugar substitutes, lowering stress, increasing daily exercise, sleeping 7-8 hrs. per night.
Even my grandkids know not to call me after 8:30 PM. In fact, I’m with Jamie Lee Curtis who says we should have rock concerts at 3 in the afternoon. In Florida, the matinees are always sold out. We’re in bed by 9 PM. And it turns out getting seven to eight hours of sleep is directly related to brain health (recent study U Wisconsin-Madison.)
The very first thing to do is to get your blood sugar regulated. The connection between diabetes and Alzheimer’s more than doubles your odds.
If you are already experiencing mild cognitive decline, and you live in California, Ohio, Florida, or Tennessee, you can get in on one of the DEMENTIA REVERSAL TRIALS. Here is the link
To apply, you must live no more than an hour from one of the following cities:
Folsom, CA San Rafael, CA
Rocky River, OH Nashville, TN
Hollywood, FL
What is important is to understand you can do something about cognitive decline.
Denial is not the answer. Feeling shame about cognitive decline is not helpful. Self-awareness is the key to getting help. If you’re 45-76 and have mild cognitive impairment, you can join one of the trials at

I’ll be 80 in September so I’m not eligible, but if you want me, you’ll find me working on those “36 holes in my roof.”
Thank you for subscribing to GET GUTSY. I’ll be looking at the “36 holes” in the next installments. If you are able to get into one of the trials, please let me know as I’d love to follow your progress. Please click on the HEART and COMMENT so I can get the word out to as many readers as possible. Thank you!
Remember, there’s no expiration on dreams,
Trish

I've instituted most of the guidelines about exercise, eating, and sleep (to the extent that I can control my sleep quality -- working on that) -- but I'm slow to give up my glass of wine or cocktail. Hmm.
Thanks, I’ll be looking forward to learning and sharing with my mom 💜
