My Cranberry Orange Marmalade Relish
So Good You Could Put it on Dirt
That was my friend Tobieโs comment the first time she tasted my Cranberry Orange Relish.
Another Tobie saying when she was tired:
Iโm going down like a one-egg pudding!
Or when she wanted something:
You canโt stomp your feet hard enough to make that happen!
Tobie, of Southern Aristocracy (Chattanooga, TN,) was a friend who called me every day. If she had to leave a message, sheโd say, โItโs just me.โ
Right, just me, the most beautiful, charming, sophisticated, smart woman I had ever known. And boy could she talk. She could talk while playing Mah Jongg and drinking wine. Let that sit for a minute.
Tobie never met a stranger. Would strike up a conversation while in line at the library, get your address and send you a Christmas card. How lucky for me that she wanted to be my friend.
One October we booked a kayaking expedition to the Sea of Cortez. Her luggage never made it to La Paz, and she ended up borrowing a pair of shorts from one of our guides. We slept in a tent on the beach for seven days, washed our hair with JOY dishwashing liquid in the ocean, while she wore those yellow shorts with the blue stripes, and never complained.
A once in a lifetime friend.
Iโm reposting my Cranberry recipe in honor of Tobie who died from Multiple Myeloma in 2018.
Sounds like a recipe for a wonderful friend. Thanks for sharing both. LOVE those expressions!
Wonderful memories of a great friend! Katie, the owner of our local quilt shop was from Kentucky. Also, completely friendly,( Bless your little heart!), and came up with the craziest phrases that cracked us up. She has also passed on to where her jokes are shared with the angels. Here's toast with cranberry sauce salute to our dear Southern friends who knew how to open hearts to the joys of friendship and crazy laughter.
